C2, I'm sure the legal eagles do a reasonable job. But they are enforcing laws which shouldn't exist.

<Sure, it's an expensive process. Microsoft got a good result even though it no doubt spend tens of millions defending itself. This is a pittance in the grand scheme of things, a very small percentage of the recent dividend. >

Ah, the old diffuse costs and concentrated benefits death by a thousand cuts argument. The lifeblood of government where everything is "only 1c from each taxpayer, so it's nothing".

Each dollar is made up of a cent, so if you take 1c away, from each dollar, it's barely noticeable. And if you do that to $100 billion, you've got real money to play with.

But one is never enough. "Hey, 1c wasn't even noticeable, so let's take another". Each step isn't significant until we put one more straw on the camel's back.

Leeches work on that principle. They don't eat the whole animal, they just suck enough for lunch and dinner. NZ these days is a swamp of leeches. In 35 years, "bludgers" have gone from social outcasts to running the show. You never hear the word these days and it would be politically incorrect to use it. Bludgers have practised their arts though; they no longer ask for a handout, they help themselves, breaking in if necessary, or they do the white collar version and get a job in the tax department or downstream from the IRD in some government department, such as the Ministry of Women's Affairs, which has to be the biggest joke. The literal horrors of the welfare system, where children are beaten to death are no joke, but still very profitable for all concerned.
