I have read that the failure rate for methadone treatment is rather high. AND that the patients not uncommomly end up addicted to methadone.

Now if methadone were harmless, that might be good. But it definitely isn't.

Also, evidence is increasingly appearing that there is a genetic component to addictions. If that is the case, then being addicted to one opiate probably greatly increases your risk of addiction to another.
