That isn't really spelled out. The delegates being bound absolutely to a candidate is pretty new. At some point, however, the delegates will have to vote on their own, and not necessarily any of the available candidates. And that would get real unpleasant, real fast...

I suspect in that particular case, that would be the last time we would have an Electorial College. There would be interesting reprecussions on Congress too...
