You are merely making reckless charges and hoping that repetition will make them stick. There is no reason to think that the character of America suddenly changed after WWII. Our interventions have always been driven by our perception of the lesser evil, which means that sometimes we helped regimes we might otherwise despise, in order to thwart Communist insurgencies, primarily. Thus, of course it sometimes looks like we are helping thugs: sometimes we were helping thugs, because we thought what was coming would be even worse. We may even have been wrong, at times. That is the hazard of making choices with imperfect information. As for GWB specifically, who profited from the death penalty? A lot of Americans think that the death penalty is just. The stuff about profiteering and sanctioning torture is just blowing smoke, you have no evidence of his responsibility for either.
