I work at a startup in Mountain View. We need bigger offices, and it's very clear that the office leasing market is much tighter than it was in Sept 2003. Back then, we were able to sub-lease prime space for $2 a square foot. Now, it's at least twice that and there's a lot less choice. IMO the biggest reason for this recovery is that the VC's are back in town.

However, I don't think that recovery in SV means anything for the national picture. Here we had a real crash, and cleared out a lot of the excesses of the tech bubble. The rest of the economy had a mild downturn, never cleared the air, and if anything the excesses (debt etc.) have got worse.
