A friend of mine spent 4 months in Iraq training the new police. Got a double hernia and came home. He said that when he was in the Kurd controlled areas he felt really safe. Friendly people who invited him into their homes for a meal. OTOH he always wore a pistol when in that area, everyone carried. Like putting on a shirt.
