Carter and Clinton were fabulous ..........

.......... It's been a long time since I enjoyed an evening of a national political convention as I did this evening.

Gore was great. He set a fine tone: "You win some, you lose some, and then there's that little known third category."

Then Carter. What a statesman! Really our true national icon. It's amazing what respectability that man has gained following his somewhat tepid presidency. His line, "we cannot lead when our leaders mislead," was stunningly poetic.

But Clinton brought the icing and the cover for Time Magazine: "Strength and wisdom are not opposing values."

I'm curious to see how the New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, and The Chicago Sun-Times lead tomorrow. Carter? Clinton?

Aaron Brown of CNN summarized the theme of the Democratic National Convention very well this evening: "No matter what you think about the war in Iraq, they made a mess of it." Just beautiful.

This convention is off to a fabulous start.
