What is important from the conventions is the general tone and candidate's acceptance speech, as fed through reports.

The embryonic stem cell issue isn't a liberal vs. conservative issue, it's religious/moral/ethical.

I suppose these days people who believe that life begins at conception are more likely to vote Republican than Democrat, given the position of both parties on abortion.

Or maybe "liberal" means "pro-abortion"?

The big test for kerry comes on thursday night with his acceptance speech.

If he is above average at all, it will be acclaimed as a "wonderful, vote-changing speech."

Will he be able to "assume his base" as kerry has and move to more moderate positions on lets say stem cell research?

The media always refers to it as a "ban" on stem cell research. This is no such ban, of course. Scientists can do anything they want to with stem cells. They just can't get the Government to pay for it.
