Fortunately for us, they don't have to make the games very lousy. Even non-counters are turned off by shallow penetration, thinking that "runs" are the way to win big in Blackjack and that shallow penetration cuts such runs short. Of course, "runs" mean nothing to the card-counter, but it's still a popular BJ myth. Another myth is that somehow the single-deck games are just better for the player because, well, they are. I don't know how many times I've seen people at such games violate basic strategy at single-deck games, or increase their bets when I know the count is bad and thus the deck is stacked against the players. Maybe it's because they've seen counters win big at those tables, but either don't know that the players actually do count cards, or they do but think counting cards is an easy road to riches. This reminds me of an ad for a casino on the Oregon coast saying they've got the only single-deck BJ table in the whole state. Why in the world would that casino want to make themselves a target for card counters everywhere? One visit there answered that question for me. Such tables attract more non-counting high-rollers than actual counters (high-roller being a relative term in this case). Oh, and one more thing. You've seen the automatic shuffler at some tables these days, right? You'd think that would spell the end of card counting, but once again, I think many gamblers, not just the card counters, are turned off by such machines and instead go elsewhere. The bottom line is that card counting will survive because of all the people who still THINK they can beat the game with myths or some half-assed strategy. Tenchusatsu
