Sounds like the arguments against John F Kennedy.

And boy, what a disaster he was!

Sounds like the arguments against John F Kennedy.

They absolutely are.

But there is more.

Before becoming Senator, JFK was a Congressman. As part of his family background, he was steeped in history and politics. He wrote a book that won a Pulitzer Prize. What has Edwards done except practice law?

JFK's legacy, had he lived, may very well have been a very checkered one. There is no way to say, of course, but the makings of a disaster were in place.

It was a different time, too, not one I'd consider analogous. The threats now are fluid and substantially more sinister. I'm not sure Edwards has the experience to deal with them. In Kennedy's time, the threats were known and so massive [the USSR's nukes] that they could be dealt with more or less rationally. I would like to see Edwards try to give Osama a Hot Line call.

I don't have any idea what Edwards might do in the foreign policy and defense arenas as a President but I seriously doubt that he had thought much about these issues until his ambition propelled him to run for President.

Sounds like the arguments against John F Kennedy.

And were those arguments ever right.

Kennedy brought in a group of geniuses called the whiz kids. McNamara, their leader, was a walking talking catastrophe and now admits it. During the Bay of Pigs, Mc was an advisor to JFK. He did so good advising that he soon was SecDef. From that lofty perch, he kept finding places to put his catastrophic poop until LBJ finally fired him in disgust.

McNamara as SecDef under Kennedy was worse than Clinton's choice of Les Aspin.

What should we expect from the current Bean Town candidate? His choice of VP tells me all I need to know. I thought Kerry had a do nothing career in the senate until I started reading about Edwards.
