but the self-important chest-thumping and general domination of the ego that prevails in blog-land doesn't appeal to me.

I skim a ton of them, Steven. The ones that make it are intelligent writers with a POV. Extremists at both ends tend to lose out.

Resorting to blogs seems a strange way to avoid bias

It's not avoiding bias, it's countering one kind of bias with another kind of bias. If you do it right, the two kinds of bias can cancel each other out.

LB filters out much of the trash, and gives us the best of both sides of the blogs...But I do agree Stephen....This site is one I've come to rely on to get the best news, and opinion, relatively quickly. I'm sure most of us feel that was, as well.

But for the regular person who follows the blogs outside of SI....Some of them are biased one way, some another way. The major media pretends it isn't biased. Fox does say they are conservative, but I've also noticed about them, they do give others of a different viewpoint, airtime. Including Michael Moore, the New Black Panthers (these folks are really waaaay off the charts), and of course, Charlie Rangle...LOL!
