Wonder where they found a pro-abortion Muslim?

You know, the Muslim/abortion issue has never come up here, to my knowledge.

SHEYKH MUHAMMAD TAYYAB, Imam, American Islamic Academy, Boonton Township:

“Killing any person is strongly condemned in the Koran. Almighty God has made life sacred. Killing children is specifically condemned in the Koran because they are helpless victims in the society.

“I quote from the holy Koran, chapter 17, verse 31: You shall not kill your children due to fear of poverty. We provide for them as well as for you. Killing them is a gross offense.

“The word ‘awald’ is used in this reference, and it translates to ‘born and unborn child.’ This word is used specifically. It is a grave sin to take the life of a child for fear of want. Neither is it allowed for any other reason unless the presence of the fetus may cause death to the mother. That would be an exception. Then, only in those limits, abortion would be allowed.

“For a born child, the word is ‘mawlood.’ This mawlood word also has been used in the Koran, but when it came to killing children, Almighty God has used ‘awald.’

“Islam does not agree with those who say that a woman has full control over her body. This does not mean that Islam subjugates women and puts them under men’s control. Islam considers our bodies as a trust which we have to preserve and maintain. It also confirms that a fetus is a creation of Almighty God and that no one, not even the mother, has the right to get rid of it unless its presence threatens the life of the mother.”
