As I said at the time, we have only one government and there are strong costs associated with hamstringing the Executive for 18 months. But the Republicans just couldn't help themselves, and overplayed their hand.

I understand your point. You think if sitting Presidents commit crimes we should look the other way, because they are important men with important jobs to do.

I disagree, that's giving in to corruption.

Nixon, by the way, resigned for less. He did not order the Whitewater breakin, and did not profit from it in any way, but he did order the coverup.

Reagan was hounded from pillar to post over the Iran-Contra scandal.

I doubt very much that you would have wanted it any other way.
