This article suggests that there's been a concerted effort to muzzle what the party faithful really want to say
in order to entice undecided voters.

There have also been indications in other articles about
the most liberal groups backing off until after the election.

Overall, it appears that the convention is geared to selling Kerry---and his party---as something they're not.
