Mark, are you considering that Clinton, the Democrat president you refer to had two things going for him. The Y2K economy leading to the overhot bubble and a Republican Congress led much of the time by Newt Ginrich. The problem the Republicans have had in the past were caused by a DEMOCRAT CONGRESS. The problem WE AMERICANS have is that our Politicians on both sides are too weak to resist PROMISING everything to get elected and then attempting to deliver more then we can afford. jdn

Aside from the economic messes that were left both Reagan and Bush, they both received a gutted military, especially Bush. It has taken a lot of money to deal with the issues left behind by Clinton.

Aside from the y2k bubble, the Clinton era economy also benefited from the Asian crisis 2 years earlier. The economy from 92-97 was not significantly different than it is today in terms of GDP, unemployment and prospects.
