They were referred to as " Canadians " at the time.

" Upper Canadians " and " Lower Canadians ",which had to do with Geography , not social status..LOL!, but it was still not a fully independant country as such till 1867.

Ya, not too bad, I guess.

Canada and the states above the Mason Dixie more so than the South though.We appear to share more in common I guess, with the East vs. West and Coastal vs. Flat Lands differing much the same culturally and socially..etc..

We are like your mirror image at times it seems.
