To make light of such a thing shows incredible ignorance or mean-spiritedness. For your sake, I hope that you're just stupid.

No, on the way back from hospitals and RxR, I sat down in enlisted men's bars in 69-70 Vietnam with dirty, dusty men who had the "look." I had it too. I was dirty and dusty like them and I was young and tough, and I'd killed people and seen my friends die, just like they had. Like attracted like.

Drunk young men talk about things that are tugging hard at their consciences. They release their pain. You can see the pain and you can judge the depth and the accuracy of the history they relate to release the pain. I heard from several men how THEY had killed women and children. I heard them try to act like it was OK. I saw the shadows just under the surface and I understood that these were men just like the men in my Company, only poorly led with no Company conscience to stop them from releasing their anger on civilians, just because they could.

The details of some of their accounts were astounding. They'll never forget what they did and I'll never forget what they told me. I heard other stories third hand that were believable but, nonetheless, third hand. I've also read the books and accounts I referred you to.

So that's what I believe and that's why. What is it you believe and why do you believe it? If all you have to base your opinion on is your childlike belief that OUR men wouldn't do such things, then you should keep your silly thoughts to yourself until you do a little research to test your unfounded beliefs.

Cause I know better, and your ridicule of the truth won't change the fact that the things Kerry related did occur with regularity in Vietnam. That is, they did for the 5% of us that saw real face to face combat. All the rest of the "combat vets" can talk all day about how they never saw shit and it doesn't mean shit.
