Semantic problem.

Were the people in the lower North American British colonies "Americans" in 1775 or 1783 (pick your date) or were they British colonists and subjects? Geographically, they were Americans; legally, the latter. The same can be said of Canadians until 1867 when Britain (sort of?) granted Canada independence. (You guys have a strange and convoluted relationship with Britain from our viewpoint. Not at all clear if you get into the details.)

Not bad at all, I'd say. The longest unfortified border in the world. They cooperate in NORAD with rotating Canadian and American commanders. They are both NATO- -they have a mutual defense pact. They are each other's largest trading partners.

We are like your mirror image at times it seems.
We come from common roots. The British taught democracy to both countries. For which we should thank them.

Although I recall we did it with musket balls. :-)
