I've heard lots of closing arguments from lots of top notch plaintiff lawyers, but I've never heard anyone purporting to channel the injured party.....

John Edwards is getting all these kudos for "fighting for the little guy" and taking on the insurance companies and HMOs. Do you think he would have taken these cases on if there were not the prospect of a high-six or seven-figure verdict and insurance coverage or an otherwise collectible defendant? Fighting for the little guy? Hell, he was fighting to earn a fee in all those cases. Nothing wrong with that, but it's pure snake oil to try to suggest that he did it out of some motivation to take on the mighty and powerful on behalf of the "little guy."
