I knew lots of people at that time who were attending the University while enlisted in the National Guard. This is not contradictory. The guard was very flexible and there is nothing unethical about that.

I personally protested the war and was heavily influenced by Viet Nam Vets against the war. My draft number was 4 and I did everything I could to stay out. I encouraged others in the national guard to get out. I have nothing against those who chose either direction ... we often found ourselves struggling together to find our path. It was awful for all of us, and those of us that were there understand how a guy would be compelled in either direction and how tragic the incidental circumstances were to live with either choice.

How do you support an anti-establishment anti-Viet Nam position and attack people like bush or me for having lived through the emotional struggle of the time ... especially when it appears in bush's case to be something of a non-event or issue. It comes across as disengenuous. But, I am truly interested in how you justify all of that.
