My point was that either we will establish the right ground rules and policies at home and around the world (and I don't mean just in the letter of the law and in slogans) or we will be in for very nasty surprise in the future.

And my point is that if the US remains uncommitted to fighting on the behalf of moderate muslims and those who reject extremist views of all kinds, then the militants will eventually dominate the middle east (with the moderates fleeing to the west like the Jews of pre-WWII Europe).

The fundamentalists are willing to expend extensive effort and treasure at building madrassas around the muslim world and espousing their extremist and intolerant flavor of Islam (heretical as it is to many moderate muslims)... They want to control the youth who are coming into adulthood, filling their minds with Islamist dogma and intolerance...

So if we're not willing to expend a greater level of effort and provide a framework for a viable economic and political alternative for them, we're going to see dictatorships fall to even more repressive and extremist theocrats.

That's what I see Sun Tzu.. If we're not willing to fight for our values and ideals around the world they will mean nothing.
