Neocon, thank you for posting that very well reasoned article. I have no real quarrel with his conclusions but I might point out that many consider deaths from the results of drinking and drugs as "slow suicides," and they might inflate his figures. One of the things I couldn't understand when in Vietnam was why anyone would take their own life. We knew how precious every moment was.

I do think that those who feel that poverty and homelessness and drug abuse are not elevated in the Vietnam Vet population are probably wrong, but that's just a common sense feeling and not based on reading or research.
