I think most of the credit for Turkey's more democratic stance goes to EU. EU made political reform a precondition for membership consideration...I am not sure how much pressure for Kurdhish rights we have been exerting over the years. I can't remember of much off hand, but I could be wrong. I agree with you that Turkey is not puppet regime and is more democratic than most countries. My point was more about the use and abuse of media as a way to put pressure on governments only to forget about the issues once they play ball.

We'll discuss how mistake my premise is at a later date.
