If it helped to tell hypocrites they were hypocrites, I would suggest that you both pluck they logs out of your own eyes rather than try to remove a splinter from something that you can't tolerate and prefer to corrupt than understand. But obviously that would never help, so I'll be my usual amiable self and just watch.

I'm less pessimistic. I believe what America is doing now in Iraq and Afghanistan can become a critical mass of informed change that causes the extreme elements of Islam to die out. This may take many years to decades but over time it happens.

I also believe the systemic pressure now being exerted in the current generation of whackos will prevent any really large attack in the US. I don't consider the Madrid bombing a large attack. 9-11 was a large attack.

There was a report recently how for the first time the CIA was reporting they had penetrated a few layer in the terrorists organization. That was a great FUD idea. It will cause all kinds of caution of action.

As economic opportunity grows in any culture based on free market principles, I see no safe place for any religious wackos who want to incite violence.
