If I were going to run a GOP ad this am, it would say: JOHN KERRY?WE CAN DO BETTER. 2.As for his credentials for the job, Kerry mentioned: *voting to put 100,000 cops on the streets *working with McCain re: Vietnam POW issue *two other VOTES on something or another. *his experience in Vietnam That's a sad commentary for a 62 year old man, with 20 years in the Senate. It struck me as an admission of a lackluster career. 3.He started the speech with something like "John Kerry reporting for duty". His military experience was hyped throughout. Had he had a real military career that may have been appropriate, but he was in for too short a time and was at too low a level for that. Kerry's obsession with his military service is like the aging car salesman who can't stop reliving his college football days. GET OVER IT! 4. The juxtaposition of JFK with Kerry's "heeding the call" caused me some cognitive dissonance. Kennedy started Vietnam. Kerry protested it upon his return. The theory of the protest was that it was an immoral war. I want to read the text of the speech in this area because as I listened to it in the car, my jar literally dropped. 5.We're going to be free of foreign oil--- BUT, we're going to be dependent on foreign pharmaceuticals....that was a good one. He actually said something like everyone in this country will be able to buy drugs from other countries... 6. He talked about equality for women like it was 1965...It's really time to roust this guy out of the 60's. What was that all about? Was it code for We're not gonna let them overturn Roe v. Wade? I didn't get it. I've felt equal for years.(There's always going to be some @sshole chauvinist around, but you can't legislate attitudes. 7.The early childhood stuff was longer than necessary and a tad hokey, like his mom as scout leader. Never mentioned the fancy boarding schools. 8. Evidently he's read the concerns that he'd cede our power to other countries and interests so he pledged not to do that....hmmm. Ever heard a pledge like that from a presidential candidate before? ____________________ I may do a little more commentary after I've read the speech, but these were the thoughts I had when I listened on the car radio..........
