But you would maybe prefer scenes of innocent people jumping out of burning buildings with a voice-over explaining: "Their world view is just different. We'll all look back on this in sixty years and realize it wasn't so bad after all."?

The Japs were regarded as subhuman during WWII in a way that the Germans never were. Remember the shot in Life Magazine of sweet wholesome girl contemplating the Jap skull her boyfriend had sent her from the Pacific as a memento?

Quite approved of, in the absolute mainstream magazine for the whole family - Life.

Nobody would ever have done that with a German skull.
