One must accept that some people are unable to deal with nuance and abstractions. Bush and his ilk play this like a fiddle. My two favorite ways of addressing it are these comments: "If you vote for Bush, it'll be like the chickens voting for Colonel Sanders." And, if they are particularly vociferous, I simply ask "Why do you hate America?" They are not used to hearing that coming from a moderate, and have to stop and think about it. I thought Kerry's speech was the best one he's given. Hopefully he will be able to keep the higher energy rhetoric going.
