Polls this morning that I've seen show no bounce for Kerry. That is not good for them. GW has been saying nothing and Kerry/Edwards have been doing all of the talking and they have actually lost in the polls. That doesn't bode well for them IMO.

Listening in the car filters out the distraction of
looking at him and allows one to focus on the words.

When you listen like that, there are certain things that
stick out...and those were the items I listed.

There were a few good lines in the speech.
Political rhetoric usually sounds good as
long as you don't really think about the words.

There were lots of internal contradictions.

The main themes were no surprise:

*bring honesty and integrity back to the WH
*restore our position as a respected world leader
*give everybody healthcare for at least $1000 less
per year, let docs vs. bureaucrats decide about the
care needed, and you can choose your own doc (he's
dreaming if he thinks a national healthcare system
will deliver all this...lol.)
*put more $ in education
*stop outsourcing, increase minimum wage
*protect constitutional rights

The catch phrases were "Help is on the Way"
and "We can do better." The former was
overused to the point that its effectiveness
was lost, imo.

The "we can do better" line wasn't bad but
it was attached to pie in the sky programs
like national health care.

Kerry's voice isn't very inspiring.
Cleland boomed on the radio. Kerry has
that thin nasal sound. It detracts from
the presentation, particularly where he
hurried through the applause lines to
keep the speech under 50 minutes.

He should have polished out at least 15 minutes
imo...it could have been done.
