The group I feel sorry for is the age group in their 20s and 30 who must pay this massive debt. People in my age group (60s) are doing very well. In fact we are the most prosperous generation to reach retirement age in US history.

I dont think anyone likes to see the National Debt increase but where we differ is I dont blame this on Bush and I dont think this increase is Bush's natural inclination. The problem as I see it, is that during the Clinton years we had a really great economy (we can argue about why but the fact is we did), this resulted in the govt taking on even more services. Then along comes a recession, Bush gets elected and we get hit with WAR against us by terrorists, we get hit with Corporate fraud. Bush HAS to get the economy going again, this is accomplished mainly through tax cuts which when tied with the cost of the above, the continuing additional services, the cost of fighting two wars offshore, the cost of building our defense ON shore and the result, DEFICITS.
IMHO Kerry would and will not make it any better and his natural inclination is MORE AND BIGGER GOVERNMENT. That is NOT going to reduce deficits. The best way IMHO is to grow the economy while at the same time being careful about growing government and eventually the tax receipts will overtake the expenditures. I think Bush is the best man to accomplish that. jdn
