At that point, everything is all screwed up for these people.

Everything is all screwed up so they break into a stranger's house, kill the husband and rape the wife and steal everything they can?

Actually, most professional burglars avoid houses with people in them.

I had a burglar case, six counts of breaking and entering, rap sheet longer than I am tall. He had a girlfriend who worked for Molly Maid, no criminal record. She would case the houses, and he would rob them when the people weren't there. Then he'd climb up on the dining room table and take a dump right in the middle of the table.

Taking a dump in the house is actually a common thing for burglars to do, I guess they are marking their territory.

He blamed his parents.

I don't know who the girlfriend blamed. Too bad for her, she seemed like she had a pretty good life up to then. Her ex got the kids, and she went off to the pen.

I'd say her life was screwed up after that, not before.

How many kids do you know that aspire to be murderers, rapists, etc.?

Generally speaking, kids aspire to be successful. If the role model of "success" is the gang leader, the drug dealer - because they are powerful and/or have lots of disposable income - then yes, being a murderer or rapist as a price to pay for being successful becomes OK. Also, what they see on TV and in movies can also play a part in how they see murder and rape.

You've mentioned this a couple of times so I'll address it.

How did things get screwed up for these people? They had bad luck, made bad choices, the system wore them down, or some combination of the three. What can we do for them? We can get them back on their feet. How do we do that? We give them a temporary leg up. It's called charity. And we fix the system so it no longer facilitates bad choices for them and for others. What we don't do is tell them that their bad choices are not their fault and they're entitled to be compensated for them by those who made good choices. Or tolerate a system that squelches productivity to the point where it won't long support the productive let alone the hangers on but still sends a message to potential hangers on that they need not worry about the future because we will love and understand and support them once everything is all screwed up for them.
