I think in here we have a fundamental difference. I think both are the same (in principle), only the reward may not always be tangible. There has to be something in it for the recipient.

Therefore, philosophically, the positive or negative approach makes a big difference in how we see life and how we would like to live it.

In any case, I think behavior scientists have a ways to go yet before they can give us anything substantive that we can really use.
