Well, if you can still use your PC, then the BIOS is probably OK, and is typically the last thing you want to change. Updating BIOS is tricky and, if it goes wrong, your PC can go dead as a doornail. It can be fixed, but reprogramming a CMOS chip that has a defect in the program is an advanced task.

If you are still getting routine crashes, what are the symptoms and the error messages (if any)? It sounds like you might have a defect in one of your sub systems.

If it is a simple software error or lockup you can use the restore command to set your PC operating system back to a date when all was OK.

ps. 44 deg C is an OK temperature for your uP chip

pps. OK I can see your earlier msg describing the problem..

Hi Olga,

I see we have not heard from you for a few days. I hope you got some help from the co. support link.

Just happened to read the last page of that link on SK43G problems (OMG! Didn't realize it was seven pages long).

However, I just notice this simple solution.

Thanks for your posts on this topic, this has been really frustrating to figure out this problem. I would have have random restarts, but often when I was running certain programs. I would have random restarts with Dvd Shrink most frequently, and often when I was playing videos. One of the restarts caused my ntfs.sys file to become corrputed which was another headache to fix using Knoppix to fix. I was convinced it was the memory (Geil Value Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200), and I was about to buy a different stick. Then I changed the fsb to 133, and suddenly no more random restarts. Thanks for your help on this!!!!!

Not an ideal solution, but one to get things back on track stability wise... if you still have the system.

A year or so ago I had some MB (unrelated) problems on an older system. It took a while before I realized if I dumped the sound card and used the on board audio chip, everything ran fine. So, I know the feeling-ng-. The reflash of the BIOS went wrong too, fortunately I had another BIOS chip and switched, and finally got the problem solved.

best of luck.

Hi Olga,

Thanks to Pearly B for stepping up to the plate. I'm afraid that at this point any suggestions on my part are likely to just result in make work futility. I'm stumped.

I'll ask around and see if anyone that I know might have a clue.

I admire your tenacity...most people would have never attempted clearing the CMOS and flashing the BIOS...out of fear...sometimes fear is a good thing.<g>
