I think the threat of terrorism will be with us for a long time. Regardless of who is President.

I also don't think the war with Iraq made much difference as regards the terror threat*. If you recall, UN sanctions were a big area of complaint against the US prior to the war, as was the previous Gulf war. Overthrowing Saddam has got rid of the future threats he represented. It also scared Gadaffi into renouncing WMD's.

*At this point. If Iraq does transition successfully to a democratic state and society, that will be the first step toward transforming the region into one which is less dangerous to the west.
