I can see potential benefit in a universal draft. However I just think it is wrong. If its really needed I might consider it a necessary evil and support it but "really needed" would have to be something like a major war (and Iraq or the "War on Terrorism" don't qualify).

Also if we drafted all or almost all 18 year old men (would women be required to serve as well?) for 2 to 4 years, we would have a military that is too big, and it would have a large percentage of relatively inexperienced people as well as many people who really don't want to be in the military.

I think the Draft should be mandatory to all American with NO exceptions including daughters of the President.

Interesting. One would think that a thread whose header contains homage to "America's heritage of freedom" would be against slavery.
