Excuse me, Europe was not sound asleep until a couple of hundred years ago. Surely you are aware of the Renaissance, the Age of Exploration, the rise of nation- states, and so forth. I am still not sure on what basis you deem the Muslim lands to have been more advanced. That was true, certainly relative to Western Europe, from about the 9th century until about the 16th century, but not so much thereafter. I wonder who the Muslim equivalent of Newton would be; or Descartes; or Shakespeare; or Bach; or Rembrandt........
