He should have received an OER from the Alabama unit. Its possible his CO screwed up and didn't do one. Thats another one of those things that happens way too often in the Reserves. I don't think just anybody with skills they need can get out. But in this case, who needs an Ex-Pilot for an aircraft being retired to sit around a unit and not having to do at a desk. Send them home early. And thats what they did essentially. He was discharged in Oct 1973 when technically he owed service until May 1974.
