Ya they could be in one big assed civil war and any and all investments could turn to dust.

Possible, but hard to know for sure... my take, i doubt a civil war so long they keep progressing, remember the great majority are sicken tired of communism, which as of late, (if not since after Mao), it is just a title and the benefits are reaped by those at the top and those who have master the art of the bribe.

I was in Hangzhou (about 300 kilometers southwest of Shanghai, with a population of 2 - 3 million if I remember correctly)... about 5 years ago... (the current boom was not even in the radar screen)

chinapages.com

If THAT was Communism... well, I would consider moving there if I get to play in the $$ game. I can buy my way out of third world discomfort in order to get comfy... there were some serious looking condo and high end residences in Shanghai (which is probably the place to be really)... I stayed at the Hilton and I would not have known the difference between there and some Orlando hotel or whatever... the food... terrific.

Anyway... the point is... right now, if one really wants to know what the true meaning of raw, unadulterated Laissez Faire Capitalism... Shanghai is probably the place to get a good look at what it would be...

In the world today, I doubt that there is anything 'guaranteed' like McArthur said, in the world there are no guarantees, only opportunities.

You like it here in the US... indeed, it is nice and comfy and if you have the right connections, you can make it into the millions or so...

You want big opportunities... then China, imo is the place to be, no guarantees, but I believe the opportunity is fair..

Now... 20 years from now... The US (unless something drastic is done to change the course of things, particularly with politicians getting more blatantly corrupt), it will be taxed to death just to pay for the promises made... and most certainly neither the communistic ways of the Democratic party is the answer nor the mentally retarded of the religious right-controlled Republican party, who is more in tune with the Ayatollah’s 13th century ideas than the 21st century modern world...

but hey... like I have said before... it is a free country, so indulge whichever way you most please

Looks to me right now their haves and have nots are getting further apart.

So what's new doc? that is standard fare in the third world, you think they are worried...

The good thing is they have been immunized against the Nirvana bull-shit dream that "everyone is equal" F*** that shit Mongo, today it is here and now, the chance to make it and the wise are taking the opportunity...

It is a sight to behold all these young Chinese entrepreneurs, busy on their cell phones making deals all day long

so even if things get ugly, one can always sound the retreat and save what one can...

Do you seriously think that this country was built on the premise that I won't make a move unless everything is 100 % ?

BS... the Vanderbilts, Goulds, JP's etc, etc, etc... of the early American dream were no sissies, they were big balled bastards that took bold risks and some paid off big time...

Play the odds if 1.2 billion Chinese are about to become consumers and the goverment is willing to assist those who help this cause... [just imagine the lack of infrastructure in the Chinese 'midwest' wherever the hell that may be... I think there is opportunity.

Contrast that with.....

The entire baby boomers generation DEMANDING that Daddy government take care of them in a society that is getting rid of industrial (and white collar) jobs...?

...and pay healthcare cost in an environment that such costs are driven by the amount of lawsuits, malpractice insurance and FDA bureaucracy ?

oh well.... take your pick and good luck

I have two words...

F*** that.... -lol
