The purpose of the warnings is to create high drama going into the republican national convention.

The Bush administration, with the help of its Blair lapdog, will pour on the terrorism warnings so that everybody expects an attack during the convention. The media will aid them in creating dramatic tension (will they or won't they get bombed?), resulting in people paying much more attention to the convention than normal.

When the convention goes off without a hitch the republican media attack dogs will congratulate each other on having stood up to the terrorists and not let them interfere with democracy in the United States.

Of course it is all a load of crap.
