Are you saying that kerry will win this election? Or merely, that he is not an Edsel? I did not understand your post to C2.

Hi, Mike.

Please don't get upset with me. It's an opinion I have that is based on several outrageous statements Kerry has recently made with I have noted, such as the following, and the general lack of character I think exists in 99% of all politicians :

"I believe this administration, in its policies, is actually encouraging the recruitment of terrorists," Senator Kerry said.

news.bostonherald.com

Kerry's numbers are not doing well. There was no bounce in the post-convention polling figures. He knows like all of us do that it is quite possible that we might get hit before the election. I think Kerry has hedged his bets in view of this possibility. He criticizes Bush vociferously for his WOT record, then, if a terror event does in fact occur, he is in a perfect position to say "See, I told you so, get rid of W!"

If no terror event takes place, his criticism is just politics as usual. Kerry is running like a desperate man who sees his support crumbling before his eyes. He knows that he is perceived as weak on security issues, and he therefore has to sound very strong. If a terror event shows him as being correct about W's security failures, it will mean increased support and more votes and therefore a better chance to win the WH.

I think that things are not looking good for Kerry right now, and that as a result his criticism of Bush, as rabid as I've seen, getting almost Dean-like, is going to increase as his numbers start to fall. Remember his promise for a clean campaign--where has that gone? Died within a few days of being made.

There is an air of desperation about Kerry that is almost palpable. No ease, no looking at the genuine guy, the same kind of attitude that got Dean dumped. He has to present himself, the real JFK2 [if there is one] if he wants to get elected.

If my views seem cynical to you, it's because I have the opinion that politicians--very few excepted--are ethically a step below used car dealers. I think they'd sell their mothers if it meant career advancement. So far, Kerry has not shown me anything that makes me challenge this view.

I have not yet read the Jay Severin post, but I will.
