It would have made a lot more sense to have left Saddam in power. Nothing happened central Iraq without his approval (the north was friendly Kurd controlled and the South was Shiite controlled) and he wasn't about to risk his power by harboring terrorists Taliban-syle.

The 9/11 Commission report was clear. Saddam had nothing to do with ANY, repeat ANY terrorist activity against the United States. Jeepers... terrorists lived and trained in Florida for months before 9/11... why didn't we invade Florida? Why not invade Saudi Arabia, home to 17 of the 19 hijackers, the money supporting them and the religious schools that promote Wahabi extremism?
