He was there and his pay records and good year prove it. He made up a lot of drills, most likely solo, at the unit doing personal study or personal training that nobody is going to remember--all after Blount's election campaign. The records back this up. His unit commander's knew he was working in Blount's campaign and his letters to the Guard inform him of his intention to work on the Blount campaign. There was no secret about it. He wasn't missing. Everybody knew where to find him...at campaign HQ. In the event of a mobilization the Guard had is phone number and address.
