This method of judging presidents by the emotions they express, "callous" vs. "caring", seems meaningless to me. I judge them by results.

If we measure presidents by results, I'd say that the most callous president we've ever had was Jimmy Carter. But he wears his heart on his sleeve, he's such a caring kind of guy, that blaming him for all the deaths his policies have caused seems, well, callous.

Reagan, on the other hand, helped free hundreds of millions of people from oppression, but gets little respect from liberals because he was just a dunce.

Bush openly speaks out against human rights abuses, e.g., the ones at Abu Ghraib, and the perpetrators are being prosecuted. I know that's not good enough for some.

Kerry, of course, is a "caring" kind of guy, except for POWs, MIAs, and others in the US military, his erstwhile "Band of Brothers."
