That sounds like what my mother had. Not a stroke but a reduction of the blood flow to the brain. Kind of works like a stroke but it isn't. In my mother's case I'd tell her I was getting ready to steal her money, she was always a little tight with a buck, and she'd be sharp for half an hour. Then a cigarette would keep her alert for another half hour. After that I was talking to the chair.
