As I said, Bush had no control over where his F-102 unit was deployed.

As I said, poppy had complete control of which unit junior would join. He picked the one junior finally joined because he knew that the plane they used had almost no chance of being called into service in Vietnam. The plane was being phased out. Poppy knew this. Junior might not have been as sure because to be safe he checked the box which said he wouldn't go to Vietnam unless they made him.

Poppy used his influence to get junior into the guard immediately even though there were over 500 qualified candidates above him on the list. It is how junior has gotten every thing he ever got in his life. That's why he is known as the fortunate son to so many.
