Keep in mind that inflation during that period peaked at a 22% annualized rate, which for the full year was something like 16.4%.

Mortgage rates of 18% were just slightly above inflation.

yeah I remember (vaguely) the 70s/early 80s housing frenzy which oil prices didn't affect as you say.

Its hard to believe we could be headed for that again, with prices already SO HIGH. Who the hell knows. I never thought I'd see the 70s again in my lifetime.
