If 49% really disapprove how come Kerry is going down?

A pundit or two has said:

- undecideds don't want Bush but aren't sure about Kerry
- it's a two-step process for them: no to Bush, neutral, yes to Kerry
- undecideds, on election day, generally vote the bum out
- No modern president has won reelection with these kind of job approval ratings months ahead of the election. The DLC is looking at job approval for Bush rather than Bush/Kerry numbers.

New battleground state polls very good for Kerry.
The CNN and USA polls seems to reflect a hardening of support amonst DEms and GOP, but the middle in the crucial areas is going more for Kerry. However it is still close. Kerry only leads in Florida by 3% and Missouri is tied.

58% say we're on the wrong track as a country.
49% disapprove of Bush.
52% say the Iraq War wasn't worth it.

Doesn't look like Bush will be able to improve upon his current standing. Meanwhile Kerry has risen 15% on ratings as a potential commander in chief. He leads 20% on the economy and health care. Looks like in the end the few undecided will trend Kerry and together with a record-setting DEm voter turnout, victory for Kerry. Florida in particular will have a record minority voter turnout after Jeb cheated them in the last elections and tried to again this year before he was busted by the Miami Herald.
