The F-102 was an obsolete, crap failure of an airframe, even at that time:

That's why the TANG were flying them. Remember, at the time, the Guard was NOT a reserve force, and was given obsolete, no longer used equipment to use up, and, in the case of the F-102, before they were turned into target drones.
