My analysis of the presidential election..as of right now.

Things can change but I believe that Kerry will win based on.

1. His base is solid...democrats as a group are pretty together on the question of removing Bush. The pain of the last 3 plus years is motivating a larger than normal democratic turn out.

2. Bush's previous solid base..the base that helped him get selected, is slipping away. Many republicans who wanted change in 2000 based on a distaste for Clinton and anyone (Gore) associated with him, have less incentive and motivation to vote for Bush's re-election...many are disenchanted with him. Bush has a core conservative base that will stay with him no matter what but the more moderate republicans are wavering.

3. Independents are leaning solidly towards Kerry.

4. As far as early election night sentiment is concerned, I really believe that New Hampshire will be a decent barometer. If NH goes for Kerry I think it will be a solid early indicator.

This is insane ~ Cheney blames the democrats for high gas prices.

Cheney blames Democratic opponents in part for high gas prices

JAMES JEFFERSON, Associated Press Writer
Tuesday, August 3, 2004
(08-03) 17:11 PDT HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) --

Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday that rising consumption and decreasing domestic production have led to high gasoline prices but also blamed his Democratic opponents and their opposition to the Bush administration's energy policies.

The Bush-Cheney campaign accuses Senate Democrats of blocking a Bush energy plan that would increase petroleum drilling and energy conservation and provide new tax breaks and other incentives to spur exploration and production.

"John Kerry and John Edwards voted no," Cheney said. "It's another area where I think there is a significant difference."

Zogby has Kerry ahead in most battlegrounds.
That's the only polling that matters now.
Who wins in Florida, West Virginia, Ohio, Missouri and one or two others. Kerry only needs to win one of these. Bush needs them all to win.

Zogby poll.THX for the link. An incumbent war-time Prez with an economy not actually in recession should be a shoe-in. It's truly a testament to the weakness of Bush that he's struggling.

BTW, why does there need to be a Director of Intelligence thingamajig anyway...what the heck is Rice being paid to do other than hold Bush's hand when Cheney's in the bunker?
