He related a few stories re Kerry helping the Clinton WH & each time I listened for positive response from the audience but....it was very quiet.

Cyberann you must have been listening to a different speech than I heard. The audience was very supportive of everything Bill Clinton said. You must be speaking of the response at your trailer.

Or maybe you're comparing Bill's applause to the applause Kerry got when he said - "I will be a Commander-in-Chief who will never mislead us into war. I will have a Vice-President who will not conduct secret meetings with polluters to rewrite our environmental laws. I will have a Secretary of Defense who will listen to the advice of our military leaders. And I will appoint an Attorney General who will uphold the Constitution of the United States." Those statements received the largest positive response of anything said at the whole convention, especially the part about the attorney general. People must like ashcroft even less than junior.
