Bush's deficit this year is 445 billion PLUS war costs. Funny how they always leave out the war costs, as if that's not real money. So add about 100 billion more.

That's may be because a lot of Americans don't know the difference between debt and deficit. Most Americans have had a debt, few have had a deficit. Maybe if more knew the difference, the government wouldn't have one either!
I think a personal deficit would scare the hell out of most Americans.

"What's the difference between the national debt and the federal deficit?
The federal deficit is is the difference between what the government takes in from taxes and other sources and what it spends annually.

Imagine you made $40,000 in a year, but had $50,000 in expenses. You would have a $10,000 deficit. You would need to borrow $10,000 to make up the difference.

For many years, that's exactly what happened. The government took in less than it spent and had to borrow the difference. This was called "deficit spending."

He is foolish. If he doesn't know what it is, he certainly can't reduce it can he?

Mark.

I was talking to a young student today, and he said he's voting for Kerry because he likes Kerry's promise of: : Help is on the way. I don't think too many folks understand the difference between debt and deficit. I don't. I know the US is owned by others because of our debt. Oh, and he said Bush's "We've turned a corner" just isn't cutting it. Because he believes Bush is turning a corner into a black hole for the US. I was so pleased to learn that young people are discerning. :)
